The 4th Day of the 3rd Moon
It happened! It finally happened! I cast my first spell! Mother had me concentrate on kindling and chant softly. I felt a warmth inside of me that I had never felt before. It started in my hand that was holding the wand, then spread up my arm, and then into my chest. It felt as though I pushed it back out and a flare of fire sprung from the wand and lit the pile of wood on fire. My heart began to race when I realized what happened. It was exhilarating. Mother was so proud. Nathanial was fascinated. Honestly, I was quite impressed myself.
Later, I asked my mother what the words I chanted meant, and she said most of the words are part of a dead language that the sorcerers are desperately trying to maintain. Many times you just need to chant a word or two that evokes the thought of what you want. She had me chanting what translates to “light fire.” This intrigues me. I wanted to know more, but Mother said that was enough for the day.
I wonder if I could learn this language….
