Notes on Axe of Steel:
This legend is about Githlum, a dwarf from a noble family. They were not royal, but they were wealthy for owning one of the most profitable mines, second only to the king. This first part discussed his past and up bringing prior to him leaving his home. I have actually heard of the kingdom he is from, Noldheim. If I remember my lessons correctly, that is far to the east. I never learned much about it, but they were key in the defeat of the Great Fiends back when the Divine Sisters were given to the elves.
Despite being a noble, Githlum was expected to work in the mine for the majority of his youth. He was his family’s most productive worker, in fact. Once he reached adulthood he regularly trained with the warriors in order to become qualified himself; apparently this is a standard thing for all dwarven men and even some women train with them. Imagine that, a woman fighting alongside men in war. It seems as though no other race prizes their women enough to keep them safe.
The 22nd Day of the 10th Moon
Franklin and Akma have made me virtually disappear. The palace believes I have gone home, we now stay in a small room in the back of the library, and my family still thinks I am in the palace. Franklin makes sure that I write them a letter telling them how much I have learned, I will just leave out about what. Franklin has let one servant know about our presence in order to intercept any messages from my family that might alert someone to our presence. Franklin is quite the crafty fellow; he still will not tell me where he learned all of this though.
Akma and the servant work together to get us food and make sure we are comfortable. At dinner, Akma and Franklin finally spoke openly in front of me discussing what was going on. They are actually greatly disturbed by the ambassadors. I did not say a thing the entire time, but they both are wondering if there is a correlation between Alan’s reappearance and the appearance of these mysterious masqueraders. I have no idea how those would be correlated, but they do not seem to know either. Apparently neither thinks it was a coincidence that I was targeted though. Neither said why though, which was quite annoying.
Tomorrow we will be going to the marketplace again.
