Chapter 4: Hidden Trails
Vasta spent the entire chapter addressing my issues. He apparently spent much time with Jothin after the other white wizards had left. Jothin studied Fiends for most of his life and researched magic specifically to battle them. Vasta wrote that Jothin confided in him that he had been haunted since he was younger with fears and premonitions that Fiends would eventually return. Jothin studied the Divine Sisters themselves as well. Vasta said that, according to Jothin, if a Fiend was invited by someone and accompanied by them as it wanders this realm, then it can go virtually unnoticed to the Divine Sisters. They can only detect when an uninvited manifestation happens, much like what took place at the Holy Hills three thousand years ago.
If the only way for Fiends to go unnoticed is for them to be invited, that means someone had to ask them to come. Why would someone do that? If someone did ask Fiends to come, that means the Ehathain forest was changed on purpose. By who?
The 12th Day of the 10th Moon
I have been greatly enjoying spending time with Akma. He has so many interesting stories. I never knew dwarves had such complex social classes! It is even more complex than ours. Within each class, which many times is determined by one’s trade rather than blood, there are subclasses that even Akma did not fully understand. Akma made a good friend at the port as well. He ended up staying at his home every time Akma came to the dwarven kingdom, instead of staying in the taverns all the other sailors stayed at. Apparently they still write each other every once in a while. I hope I never have to leave the library.
I wonder what it would be like to visit the dwarves. Akma said he is going to try to find me a good book on dwarves, written in the common tongue, that I can read after I finish Vasta’s.
