Notes on A War With Shadows:
This book is much more like the boring history books that my teachers assign, but it will be useful for reporting on what happened. Something must be boring to succeed in my lessons.
Apparently, the war did not start until the Ehathians invaded Tith. Tithians had been banned from entering the Ehathian forest several moons before the attacks began. At first there were small, raid-like encounters, where houses would randomly burn down or a small group of people were mugged and the only description they could give was shadows. They proceeded for several moons. During the Second Moon of their ruler’s Twentieth Year, people were woken by the sound of an army marching. Witnesses say that when the left their houses all they could see was a large mass of darkness. Even the Ehathian’s weapons were just dark shadows, but when they clashed with the sorcerer’s weapons, they were as solid as any metal is. But when the sorcerer’s tried to fight them, their swords would just go straight through the Ehathian’s bodies like it was going through a shadow. Only spells could cause harm to the Ehathains, but even those were not always effective.
The first battle on its own caused great damage to Thyla and left many Tithians dead or greatly injured. Within half a moon turn the town was evacuated.
The 1st Day of the 10th Moon
Cherish was at the marketplace today. She liked it when we stopped by last moon and invited us to come by whenever we want. I think I will take her up on that offer soon.
Sohar also waved me over when he saw me. Apparently, he has heard of more of Alan’s followers being seen. Unfortunately, Franklin followed me when I went to speak with Sohar. If I knew what Sohar was going to tell me, I would not have let Franklin hear. When we got back to the palace Franklin sat me down instead of our typical fighting lesson. I had to admit that I knew about the symbol. He was not happy. When he started to yell at me for sneaking around behind his back, I could not help myself but yell back about how he hid from me that some of Alan’s followers tried to kill us. That caused him to stop yelling. He said we would talk about it further tomorrow. I want to know if he knows why we were targeted, if we were targeted and not just victims by chance. I still think he knows something I do not. I am determined to figure it out from him.
I am going to have trouble sleeping tonight. Maybe I will go take a night walk in the gardens.
