The 30th Day of the 9th Moon

Notes on A New Shadow:

The amount of time that took place between the physical change and the poisoning of the berries was several moon turns. But the time between the first poisonings and people being disoriented and getting lost in the forest was only about half a moon turn. And then again the time between how long it took before people started going missing was another few moon turns. It was not a steady progression. Maybe one of the other books will help me determine if there are any specific causes to this. The book goes into great detail about the transitions, but does not go much further into the Ehathians themselves and the war.

Included in the book are transcripts of some letters sent to other kingdoms during the time of change. According to one, some of the Tithians are blaming someone named Seenha. They do not go into much detail on who Seenha is or why they are being blamed. I should look into this.

The most interesting letter, however, is one from one of the first people to see an Ehathian. The terror that is expressed is overwhelming. He felt like he was being stalked by someone in the forest. Once he pursued them he saw nothing but the shadow of a man standing before him. The author could not describe the feeling he had of seeing such a creature. What intrigues me, however, is that the Ehathian did not attack him. Why did the Ehathian not attack him when within the next year there is a war started by the Ehathians? I think the next book I will read will be one about the war itself.

The 30th Day of the 9th Moon

I talked to Akma about Seenha. Apparently she is a god from a lost religion. The religion was dying during the time of the change, so it makes sense that they would be blaming her if that religion was already loosing favor. Too bad, I was hoping maybe there was an actual citizen that may have caused the change.

We were not able to go to the marketplace today, but Franklin promised we would go tomorrow. He also was not able to give me any fighting lessons. Apparently there are going to be guests coming to the palace within the next moon’s turn. I have no idea who they are or what they will be doing here, but it has the entire palace running around. I cannot wait to see who it is that is causing this stir, because the King has not even been to court since before the passing of the Queen. I can only imagine it would be relatives, but I am not sure who.
