Notes on Tales of Dragons and Fairies
Chapter 1: The Spring Fairies
I never knew there were different types of fairies. I always just thought they were fairies. But according to Jahka, there are six primary “kingdoms” of fairies: Night Fairies, Day Fairies, Summer Fairies, Fall Fairies, Winter Fairies, and Spring Fairies. In this chapter he discusses Spring Fairies. They are the most common ones that are found in woods and fields and glow in various colors. According to Jahka, fairies tend to only expose themselves to fellow magical creatures, which is why humans rarely see them but elves have had long-standing relationships with them. He indicates that fairies posses powers beyond glowing, flying, and generally being attractive (the drawings he included in the books inspired by actual fairies are breath-taking), but Jahka does not discuss what any of those powers are.
The 28th Day of the 8th Moon of the Year
While in the library today, reading Tales of Dragons and Fairies, I met my tutor. He is very nice and understanding. He wanted to hear about my journey to Dovan, since he was informed of the delays but was not informed as to why. He was truly intrigued by the entire event. He was also interested in what I was reading and was impressed that I took notes on everything I was interested in. It seems like he is much more understanding than my father and appreciates a desire to understand more about our world. I asked him about books by Gahila, but he was not familiar with him and suggested I talk to one of the library’s keepers. Unfortunately, I could not find one today so will have to remember to inquire about the books later.
The book is interesting, I was hoping for more tales themselves, but I think they will be presented later in the book. At least I hope so. But it is teaching me a lot about these mystical creatures.
I saw Franklin speaking with some of the servants earlier. It almost seemed as if they have known each other for a long time. I asked him about it, but he just shrugged it off and said that the servants here are kind and friendly people and that it would do me good to get to know them. I wonder how he knows them.
Franklin said that we will only be able to do a short fighting lesson tomorrow (which I am thankful of since I am still in a little bit of pain) because he will be going into town. I would love to see more of Dovan so I asked if I would be able to go with him. It took quite a bit of convincing (seemed like my parents may have instructed to not let me leave the palace), but he eventually gave in. I cannot help but wonder if the rest of the town is as beautiful as the palace. I was so tired when we came in that I did not pay much attention and we also entered through a back way that is not known by many. I can only expect the city would be as grand. How could the capitol have such a fine palace but a decrepit city?
