Notes on Gahila:

Chapter 6: Human Casters

Gahila writes about several famous humans who could cast spells. I only knew two names out of the entire list, and I have never heard about them in relation to spells! I have heard of Sir Hoshika from a great war in distant lands between dwarves and dark elves drow about two thousand years ago. I never quite paid enough attention to understand why the humans were involved in that war, but Sir Hoshika became one of the most well known of the knights that fought alongside the dwarves. But from all the legends and lessons I have heard nothing mentions anything about humans casting spells. Once I reach the capitol, I must look this information up, there has to be something about the war and Sir Hoshika in the palace library. Gahila also writes about the king of Oani from the same time period as Sir Hoshika. I don’t know much about him, but since he was form the same time period it is possible if humans with magical abilities existed. I think I will look him up as well.

Chapter 7: Types of Spells

Gahila theorizes about the abilities humans had. It was interesting, but not very informative.

Chapter 8: Seers

This was very interesting. I have never heard of human seers. I have heard of elven and wizards having the ability to see the future and maybe a couple humans who claimed to have gained the ability through the sighting of a phoenix (but that is still in debate). And even the people who have seen phoenixes admit to limited knowledge. But Gahila is claiming there were humans with the full ability of elves and wizards. They were rare even during the time of human’s spell casting days, but he says they existed. The part that concerns me most about this chapter, however, is some pages are missing! Someone ripped out several pages when Gahila begins to address a specific seer who prophesized an event that would change the entire world and all races, but before the name is even mentioned the pages are removed. I never noticed this when I bought it, but it is very disturbing because the final sentence of the section is: “His vision was one of horror and even the next day after he publicly announced it, people began to reject it and say that it was blasphemy or fake.” Could these pages have been removed to erase this prophesy hundreds of years later?

Chapter 9: The Rejection of Magic

Gahila tells of how humans began to reject their ability to cast spells. The reason is unknown but he has several theories. 1. It has to do with the prophesy of Shival, which I am supposing is the curse with pages removed (I wonder if that is the seer’s name, but Gahila does not seem to present it that way). 2. Tension between humans and elves increasing (he does not explain why). 3. Corruption of its use (Gahila does not think this is likely, but still presented it). 4. And obviously, a reason of which he could not even fathom. He does write about how this rejection was a social decision, meaning it is still possible that some humans contain the ability to cast spells. The likelihood is extremely low because most spell casting humans fled to the elven and wizard lands creating the race of sorcerers. The persecution of spell casters was so extreme in some areas that they were killed on discovery, slowly eliminating the magic seed.

I wish the book continued from there, but I have finished reading it. I will look to see if I can find any more books by Gahila. Something tells me I should look at the Black Market. I am not sure how I will do that.

The 18^th Day of the 8^th Moon of the Year

I cannot believe it has been so long since I have written an actual entry, but the book was just so fascinating and I tried to take decent notes. Unfortunately, after looking over my notes I feel as though they are not sufficient, but I want to continue on to another book. I am not sure which one I should read next, but I am sure tomorrow I will know right away.

We stayed at an inn last night, I have started to try and listen to myths and stories of travelers. Unfortunately, no one has spoken of the elven lands or actual legends. I have learned a lot about the weather and routes not to take due to high thieving traffic. I informed my guards about those roads, but he assured me we are not taking any of them. Every time there is a merchant I investigate his wares for anything of interest, but I have not found anything.

I wish there was more to write about, but other than my books not much interesting has happened. My guards say I should be thankful of that, but even meeting someone interesting in the inns would be enough. We shall see what the last two days hold.
