About Joshua Graystand

Joshua Graystand is the eldest of him, his brother (Nathaniel), and his sister (Briana). His father, Lord Graystand, is tenth in line for the throne, much closer than Joshua would ever like. The king has no heirs, not even females, and Lord Graystand is the fifth youngest in line with at least two decades still to go on is life. Despite his father’s desire to become king, Joshua struggles with the concept of even taking over their property.

When Joshua was only five years old, his mother took him to see a traveling musician group that was just outside of their town. All of the musicians were elves other than one, a wizard who used magic to both visually entertain as well as to create music. Joshua grew infatuated with the mysticism. He sought out story tellers that would speak of elves and magic and, as he grew older, he began buying books about the topics and wandering off into a nearby grove to sit and read.

Once Joshua’s father started noticing him favor his pleasure books over his education, the punishments started. At first they were light, such as Joshua not being allowed to buy any more books for a week or two. But then, they grew harder. At one point Joshua was even forced to help the servants go to the marketplace to purchase supplies for the week. To Lord Graystand’s dismay, Joshua enjoyed the trip and volunteered to go the next week. It was after that moment when Lord Graystand realized that something more dramatic would have to be done.
