The 21st Day of the 8th Moon of the Year
Franklin helped me write the letters. He is much better with wording than I thought. He must have some level of high education that I did not know about. I mean, I never thought he was not educated, but I did not expect it to be the level at what he illustrated. Despite Franklin’s crafty wording, I am sure my father will see straight through it and know something traumatic happened; I just hope my mother does not read the letter as well. I would not blame either of them for worrying, honestly I am worried myself. I have not been able to sleep since it happened. It is not even the sleep for a couple of hours only lack of sleep, it is the awake every second of the night. I know Franklin can tell, but he says nothing. I think he knows I know he is not sleeping as well, and yet he is much more aware of our surroundings than I am. I have never seen this side of Franklin. He is like a hawk and yet I have looked at him at night and he is sitting at the window wide awake. I always thought he was the timid guard; but last night, when a drunkard came over to our table trying to pick a fight or something (I could not really tell he was slurring too much), Franklin gently tried to guide him away. But when the drunkard refused to move, Franklin punched him in the face, knocking him unconscious. I was half horrified, half impressed. I have never seen Franklin do something like that, but it also made me feel a lot safer in his presence. It proved that he did not make it through the attack out of luck (like me), but rather because he was skilled enough. I wonder if he could teach me some things. I will have to ask him. Maybe that can take my mind off of everything as well.
Sarah is I still could not read any. I am hoping we can leave soon; maybe that would help my concentration. I need something to get my mind off of everything. I think I am going to ask Franklin to teach me to fight now. Maybe that will help.
